Highway coaches are available for people with mobility issues.
After twenty-five years in the industry, I took it for granted that it was common knowledge
this service was available. However, I discovered that many people did not realize that with a minimum of twenty four hours notice, an accessible highway
coach can be made available to anyone with mobility issues.
These special coaches are equipped with lifts and tie-downs to secure both manual and electric
wheelchairs. Most coaches can carry two wheelchairs. The drivers have been trained in the transporting of people with mobility issues. Some of the companies will allow the accompanying attendant to travel either free of charge or at a reduced rate.
Both Greyhound (Voyageur) and Coach Canada offer this service
out of Kingston. The most common routes would be Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Niagara Falls. However, you can go as far east as the Maritime’s or as far west as Calgary or even further, some of these are more complicated bookings, as you would have to arrange for transfers with other companies.
For more information on how to arrange your bus, call the Kingston Terminal at 613-547-4916.
